Luxor is the worlds greatest outdoor museum and the center for some of the most magnificent remains of Pharaonic Egypt. Luxor was known to the ancient Greeks as Thebes and was said to be not only the most beautiful city in the world but also the stateliest.  Luxor is actually three towns in one- the commercial center of Luxor on the East bank of the Nile; Karnak, the immense temple complex; and the Theban Necropolis on the West Bank.
Valley of the Kings and Queens
Cross the Nile for a morning of awe-inspiring sights at the magnificent Necropolis of ancient Thebes. There you'll see the breathtaking tombs of the Valley of the Kings and Queens- magnificent burial sites for the Pharaohs and nobles of the New Kingdom. Decorating the walls of the tombs are eloquent scenes of royal rituals and funerary proceedings.

Temple of Queen Hatshepsut
Situated on the Western Bank of the city is the famous mortuary complex of Queen Hatshepsut.  Built on a grand scale with terraces and colonnades set against the mountain, the complex consists of a number of beautiful mortuary temples and tombs celebrating the longest-reigning female in Egyptian history. With its graceful appearance against the rugged background, it comes as no surprise that so many people consider it to be one  of the incomparable monuments of ancient Egypt.

The Colossi of Memnon
Nestled in the immense Theban Necropolis are two massive statues dedicated to the mighty Pharaoh Amenhotep III. Carved completely from stone, the statues are now considered colossal icons of the famous New Kingdom era and of the glories of its rulers.

Luxor and Karnak Temples
Visit the Temples of Luxor and Karnak, whose ruins are perhaps the most wonderful of any in Egypt. The Temple of Luxor stands on the site of an earlier edifice. Built by Amenophis III, it was considered one of the most beautiful temples in all of ancient Egypt. Karnak, the great temple of Amun, fronts the Nile with its courts, halls, pylons and statues. At night, a spectacular sound and light performance will surely leave you fascinated with the history of the great Pharaohs of the 18th and 19th Dynasties.
